Sometimes I think i'm a tad bit evil because of the way I handle a certain neighborhood occurrence here in Salt Lake City. You see, there are a lot of active people around here- bikers, runners, hikers, you name it. And in my neighborhood specifically there are trails on top of trails for all these things, that intertwine with public roads, and it's really cool.
There is one road I frequently drive on that has a cemetery on both sides of the road, with crosswalks here and there. Runners love this wide road for whatever reason. The speed limit is 25 mph, probably to protect pedestrians who cross.
One time I drove down that road and saw an older lady running toward me on the right shoulder, who was waving. I thought "How nice! a friendly runner waving hello!" But, no. This lady thought I was going way too fast and wasn't really waving hello- she was trying to wave me down and sternly lecture me. I was going 25 mph, but she certainly didn't think so based on her frantic hand gestures and angry face. I slowed down even more as I passed just because driving and staring out the side window is hard. She was placated.
Another day however, this same exact thing happened. I saw a figure waving at me in the distance, only to recognize it as the older angry anti-speeding woman. She was using all the possible negative hand gestures she could muster up to get me to understand my wrong doing. I was going 25 mph. So, I sped up a little. And yes, it's evil because that made me laugh as I pressed down the pedal.
Yesterday I saw the lady for the third time. As I rounded a bend GOING 25MPH I saw her start to do her hand things and make her angry faces. So, when I got really close I slowed down to around 10 and waved a cute little happy wave at her mouthing "Have a good day!" and then I blew her a kiss and drove away (at 25 mph.)
I just kinda think its funny when people make themselves the police of whatever their safety passion is, It doesn't seem to make them happy at all! This lady acts like her day is just ruined, RUINED. But I take full recognition of my evilness and plan to keep happily waving back.
