Washington DC

Ouch

It’s officially official.  I’m ancient.

My dear daughter just estimated the end of World War II as 1987.  I asked, “When did it end, now?”

“Well, I’m not exactly sure, but forever ago.”

Dagger meet heart.  Heart, yes it hurts, but I can’t promise it gets any better.

Now get off my lawn!

Siri and me

My kids can't understand why I don't like Siri. They are under the impression that Siri can do everything for me and are constantly questioning me about why I don't use her to set timers or alarms or call people, etc.  One day I tried to explain to them that Siri just doesn't hear me right and that it's more work for me to use her than just do things myself. I also explained that it was more frustrating to try and use her and so I was thinking about just turning her off my phone.

Isaac responded with, "Mom, if you and Siri are having trouble communicating, you should try speaking slowly and calmly to her. Be patient and loving. That's what you always tell me and Belle to do when we aren't communicating."

Um, adorable. And true!

Victory!

While walking around Spain seeing the sights, our kids are encouraged to talk to random people they meet on the street. As part of their homeschool (a very small part) they are learning spanish.

It seems like in each country we visit the kids have a phrase they like to ask people, and here in Spain, they are asking people if they can pet their dogs.

Isaac has no problem asking random strangers random things in a language he doesn't really know. He really will ask anyone, anything without much fear.

Isabelle on the other hand, is quite shy when the time comes! So funny to us, since she is so boisterous and spunky normally. She will practice over and over what to say in Spanish and then BEG us to let her go ask the stranger if she can pet their doggie, and then chicken out at the last minute.

However, today Belle had two victories, where she marched up and slowly and clearly asked two people if she could pet their dogs. When she was all finished, her face was triumphant and our whole family celebrated her little victory.

Itinerary.

Tomorrow. Tomorrow is the day! We move in to our house. I can't wait to see how the kids act when we get in.

Here's what I think I'll do in the first 24 hours.

1. Take in the vast space.

2. Cook a home meal. (toast?  cold cereal? the extent of my cooking skillz.)

3. Help the kids unpack their toys.

4. Immediately put 60% of our stuff into a "Sell" pile.

5. Put another 35% into a give away pile.

6. Climb into our gigantanormous bed and SLEEP IN!

7. Count our many, many blessings.

I'll update you on what actually goes down in the first 24 hours. I know, "super interesting" blog post.

I will be in Paris, France around the 15th and 16th of December for a quick trip.  If you want a session let me know asap.

Party of 10.  Washington, DC.
