When in Paris

Almost 3 years ago, we decided to do Europe in style. Which of course means, in an RV. Am I right?

Organizing the trip in an RV was a beast. There were a lot of things to consider, maps to route, etc but I was sure that it would be much more fun than taking trains or planes around the continent. Notice I said that "I" was sure. Tyler needed convincing. I don't think I was ever successful at convincing him...

I arranged to pick up the RV in Rouen, France. We were to arrive in Paris, see the city, then go pick up the camper because hello? Who wants to drive an RV in Paris? Narrow streets and crowded city, no thank you. So we saw the sites and when the day came to leave, we headed to Rouen to pick up the camper.

It wasn't until we arrived that we realized Tyler had forgotten his passport in the Paris hotel safe. CURSE WORDS. This meant two very bad things.

1. He was not ever allowed to drive the camper since he didn't have his passport. That was the rule, and they'd fine us big bucks if we got caught.

2. We (I) would have to navigate the RV back into and out of Paris to pick up the passport.

So we checked out of the RV store (which involved a hilariously lengthy explanation, in French, which we unfortunately do not speak, about how to use the RV and all it's features) and headed back to Paris. I was nervous about driving that thing around, but I suffer from this mental disease that makes me think I can handle anything, so I was ready.

Well- to make a long story short- we succeeded in getting back to the hotel, grabbing that passport and leaving Paris unscathed. Not without a lot of stress about hitting walls and pedestrians, and not without running a few red lights I didn't see.  I will say, I've never, EVER heard so much honking in my life. All directed at me. Whoopsie Parisiennes! Don't worry- I'm not coming back.

Not in an RV, anyway.

We finished our tour of Europe and at the end I accumulated how many kilometers I drove. End total: 5,547.  The memories were all worth it!

Images from Knoxville, Tennessee. This was also a photo-video session but we like to reserve the videos just for the families, usually.
