Recently I was touring around Australia doing sessions. For company, I had my almost 20-year old niece with me. She is from Utah and is a funny, cute and happy- perfect travel companion! Besides a 2 week trip to Europe in high school, she had never been out of the country.
In Australia, you can get delicious fish and chips from countless cafes; every year I think the fish gets more and more tasty. We Whitacres have been known to stalk our favorite Australian Fish N' Chips joints for lunch multiple days in a row. (This actually embarrasses me to no end, the day after day showing of my face in the same eating establishment.)
I was telling my niece about how good fish and chips were. She was excited to try them, and when it came time to sit down and eat our first plate of food, she was shocked to find fish and fries on the plate.
"Chips?" she asked. "where are the chips? I love fries but um.... chips?"
We laughed about this misunderstanding for a long while. What made it even funnier to me was when she whispered to me, "Wendy... do you think they have fry sauce here?"
For those not from Utah- fry sauce is a delicious combo of mayo and ketchup found in every single restaurant that serves fries. Er, I mean, chips. You really can't find fry sauce anywhere else!
