As a parent, I think I analyze my children's eating habits too much. However, it is so hard no to.
For example, when Isabelle was 1 year old, she would eat anything you put on her high chair tray. Avocado, shrimp, mango, spinach, lamb, screws, wood, you name it.
When she was 3-6 years old, she limited her "likes" and "dislikes" to most vegetables and most fruits, and all meats. Bread and dairy and sugar, also a yes. In foreign countries she would try everything bravely and then seriously say "I am not a fan of that" after trying it if she didn't like it.
Now, as an almost 8 year old, Isabelle has a "very refined palette." Yes, I'm trying to put it nicely. I'm afraid we asked her to try so many new foods we may have actually turned her off foods completely.
I would like to present you with Isabelle's current list of accepted foods:
-Bread (sliced or baguette but definitely not muffins or croissants)
-Strawberries (one bite out of each)
Of course we require that she eat other foods at meal times. But it is a struggle! A war on some days, even. To make myself feel better about her declining eating habits, I think of what I now like as an adult that I definitely, definitely did NOT like as a child. The list is as follows:
-any seafood, really
-stinky cheese (OH WAIT I STILL HATE THAT)
This list gives me hope that one day, we will sit down to dinner and Isabelle will suddenly gobble down all the food without complaint.
Don't burst my bubble. I need this to happen!
