Tonight we write from a hotel room just outside Detroit. I'm a bit freaked out and can't sleep because I accidentally listened to a podcast (This American Life) that I usually love, but the episode I heard tonight contained a story of my worst nightmare: bedbugs.
OK, maybe not my worst nightmare- but still, a nightmare. And now? I'm in a hotel room, about to sleep in yet another strange bed. What if?
So, I'll change the subject. For the past 7 nights, we had been staying with: The Malleys. You remember? The famed, heroic Malleys of this story. The ones who recovered my camera bag in Indiana last year after I idiotically left it in a park.
These guys below.
They are awesome- and super hospitable. Not everyone can take hosting us Bluelilies for 7 nights. We're a bit crazy. We had a blast and now, tonight, all alone in this possibly bug-riddled hotel room, we feel lonely. There's nobody to stay up with into the wee night hours. Nobody to cook us delicious food without being asked.
Or don't, because, we just spent 7 nights in the lap of luxury.
Anyway, our kids love their kids and unfortunately we had to rip Isaac and Izzy out of their kids' presence after a week of playtime bliss. I will forever be grateful for our children's ability to (relatively painlessly) detach and say goodbye until next time. It takes special kids to understand the nature of frequent, seemingly unfair goodbyes. And I thank Izzy and Isaac again and again for being super, duper awesome.
Just in case you forgot what Isaac and Izzy look like, click here. (Came across this photo and couldn't resist reposting.)
But that doesn't mean that all four of us aren't in serious Malley withdrawals.
So here are more pictures of them. Chicago, Illinois.
