The best way to learn how to me a marvelous human being is to spend time with them.
I cannot believe how open everyone is with us- how many homes we are invited into, for dinner, or for a night's rest. It's been wonderful to make new friends and Tyler and I have written about it many times. Over and over my eyes are open to the kindness and generosity of people who are at first strangers, but soon great friends.
In Brasilia, we were invited to stay with Luciana and Paulo, and their two kids. They have a beautiful home in a beautiful city with gorgeous blue skies. And the kicker is this: they weren't even going to be home when we arrived- they welcomed us to stay in their home, as strangers, and trusted us that much- until they arrived 4 days later.
I like knowing there are people out there that are willing to treat strangers like good friends. I know I'd like to be that kind of person, and every time I'm privileged to spend time with this type of marvelous person, I hope that a little bit of their awesome seeps into me.
It must be said that Luciana and Paulo were so nice... so completely generous and giving- that Isabelle had a really hard time leaving. There were actual TEARS SHED by Isabelle when Luciana dropped us off at the airport. Isabelle would have stayed and lived with them for a year, she said so herself.
I tried not to feel betrayed, because I would have stayed, too.
Thank you L and P and kids for showing us the true spirit of Brasilia.
(Pictures below were mostly taken at the home they are currently building. P.S. It is really funny to watch a photo-ready little 3 year old get paint.... everywhere.)
