One of two animals I kinda fear is the bird. Birds... I mean, they can peck out your eyes for an afternoon snack if they want to. So, I try to keep my distance.
But last year, as Tyler and I were strolling through Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens, we came upon a flock of white birds. People were staring at these birds and even picking one or two of them up. We were amused, and for that one bright afternoon, I shed my fear of birds and even let one climb onto my finger. Until it bit me and I ran away.
So this year, we thought we'd take the kids to see the birds (Cockatoos?) and see what they thought. To my knowledge neither of the kids has inherited my bird fright. Indeed, they thought these big white birds were kind of cool, except for one thing- that these birds screeeeeeeeeech so loudly, almost yelling/telling each other off as they fly around the gardens. It is SO LOUD. AND SO SCARY. But the kids just acted like it was just SO LOUD.
I love these pictures, and I love that a bird actually had the audacity to land on Tyler's head. I mean, what a birdjerk!
For those of you wondering about what the 'Lil BlueLilies do while we work when we don't travel with a nanny (as we didn't in AU, NZ and Japan), check the quick snap above. They looooooooove to come with us and play on iPods.
That blue bag behind Isaac is our lunch/dinner bag. We found food to be insanely expensive in Australia. But yet, we didn't want to return to the house/apt/hotel/campsite each day to make lunch and dinner, so we always went to a grocery and bought the following:
1. huge tub of strawberry yogurt
2. crackers and cheese
And that's it. We lived off that for more than 2 weeks. Ew.
