Again, the beautiful rain in New Zealand brought us a great day of family fun. This was a day we were supposed to be taking client photos, but we were able to reschedule for the next day.
Hiking is a great activity for our kids, because they just love to move, like most kids do. While hiking we tell stories, each taking a turn and making up a story of our own. Tyler's always involve funny, quirky characters, and possibly boogars. Isaac's are always incredibly long and detailed. Isabelle tells 3 second long stories so that she can move on and hear another's story. And I stink at making up stories, except for new Peter Cottontail chapters. The kids LOVE Peter Cottontail stories for some reason, and it's fun to weave in new plots.
Aside from story telling, we also eat a lot of snacks. Snacks are the key to getting a young child to keep hiking. Last summer in Banff, we learned this valuable lesson. We backpacked a lot and our kids ended up hiking over 45 miles that week. We were really proud, and give half credit to their awesome, persevering personalities, and the other half to the awesome snacks we packed :)
(Side note: they could not have hiked so long if not for
shoes. Durable, Cozy, wide at the toe, they are a perfect kid shoe. Ours wear them almost every day whether they are hiking or not.)
In New Zealand, we hiked and marveled at the intense green at every turn. On hikes on sunny days, we were in awe of both the green and the super blue skies. The birds there are so different, and we enjoyed identifying new species of both bird and insect. That sounds pretty nerdy. But it was fun.
people don't think we are blogging enough of our travels.
people are probably right. You know who you are. We'll catch up. :)
