In elementary school I used to look forward to "computer lab," which was an hour of pure bliss. You didn't have to think, do homework, or follow any rules. You could play computer games until your eyes burned out (or until the 1 hour was up).
I loved to play a game called the Oregon Trail, where you try and guide a family across the plains to Oregon without killing them off.
Or rather, that's what your are supposed to do. Sick, twisted, 9 year-old Wendy loved to purposefully kill off the whole family as soon as possible. I'd starve them and expose them to the elements and see how long it took the screen to report, "Your wagon train did not reach Oregon." I dunno why- I thought it was fun being so powerful! (I was normally quite meek and quiet when I was 9, ok?)
The other day I was surfing through iPhone apps and i came across the Oregon Trail game. Of course I had to download it. I played it for TWO hours late at night, lying in bed, waiting for my eyes to get sleepy, before I realized that I was playing the game the right way- not trying to make my characters die a horrible death.
You see? I've grown up!
We're headed to Portland, Oregon and Seattle tomorrow. I am so excited to go since I've never been that far north before. I know it's going to be beautiful. I just hope it's not so beautiful that I never want to come home!
Images below are from Rosslyn and Zach's June wedding at the LDS San Diego Temple. It was truly a beautiful day.
