It wasn't natural light photography that sparked my whole camera obsession. No, it was studio work that made me fall in love with pictures. Images of children and families in a dramatic, colorful setting; it intrigued me and I just HAD to figure out how to do it.
So, I purchased a strobe. And a backdrop system, and a few cheap other things to get me going. I figured it out.
Then I got distracted.
By that big yellow ball in the sky called the sun.
Natural light photography is a whole different ball game. It's beauty is stunning and simple and breathtaking all at once. I became obsessed with figuring out how to light subjects in creative ways using the sun through windows, in open shade, you name it.
And from there, my business skyrocketed and we find ourselves where we are today.
Where would that be?
Oh you know, tromping through fields of knee-high weeds, roaming through neglected parts of downtown, strolling through orchards, seeking out the pretty in the ugly.
Outside. In the light.
Sometimes it's good to go back to the beginning.
