I go to Arizona pretty often for photography, and I'm still struggling a little with my love/hate relationship with the state.
I don't love, for example, how when I call a venue to check and see if I can shoot there, and they say "Yes! Please come, nothing going on that day," and then I show up and there's a huge Japanese festival with enough humans in attendance to cover every inch of the ground.
NOT COOL, ARIZONA.
I also don't love that I can't speed, but I've mentioned that previously.
And I find it verrrrrry hard to find locations to shoot in AZ that my clients approve of.
These are my gripes.
However! I do keep going back. I think this is because:
-The families I work with are nothing short of amazing. A big happy family dynamic going on.
-The vast quantities of restaurants I've never heard of. I LOVE ME A GOOD, NEW RESTAURANT.
-I'd drive the 5 hours simply to partake of the Gelato Spot's delectable goodness. Gelato. Yum.
oh.... aaaaaaaannnnnnndddddd I love the groovy modern yuppie feel of the hotels I stay in. SO SUE ME.
The last couple of trips out to AZ, I've brought some girlfriends with me, so that I don't get horridly depressed and lonely between rigorous shooting schedules. I'd like to post some extremely embarrassing, "girls gone crazy" photos of my pals and I, but unfortunately I have none. But that's not because wild stuff didn't happen, ok?
You bet it did. (mormon style.)
Check out these desert beauties from my last trip.
